Working principles at Iseer
Values that guide our research, product, and company decisions.

Our principles reflect rigor, restraint, and long‑term vision. They are operating rules, not wall art. We use them to decide what to build, how to build it, and when to say no.
Why principles
Building intelligence systems carries real responsibility. Clear principles help us:
- Make consistent decisions under uncertainty
- Balance pace with safety, and novelty with proof
- Earn and keep the trust of users, partners, and the public
The principles
1) Rigor over hype
We do not ship “because it demos.” Claims are backed by data, ablations, and transparent limitations. If we haven’t reproduced it, we don’t rely on it.
2) Safety and alignment by design
Risk analysis is part of the design review, not a late checklist. We seek failure modes proactively, favor capability controls, and instrument systems to detect and mitigate misuse.
3) Interpretability and verification are requirements
We prioritize techniques that make decisions traceable. Evaluation plans include verification hooks, probes, and model‑level diagnostics—not just headline metrics.
4) Practical utility without losing scientific depth
We optimize for usefulness: fast feedback loops with real users. But shortcuts that undermine soundness or future extensibility are rejected.
5) Long‑term orientation
We prefer durable foundations over short‑term wins. Work should compound: today’s research should make tomorrow’s product safer and more capable.
6) Clarity and candor
We communicate limits, uncertainties, and trade‑offs plainly—internally and externally. No hidden assumptions, no magic.
7) Ownership and stewardship
Everyone is responsible for outcomes. If something is broken or unclear, we fix it or write it down. We leave systems simpler than we found them.
8) Default to open where safe
We share ideas, docs, and artifacts that improve the field, while respecting privacy, security, and responsible disclosure.
9) Inclusive collaboration
Interdisciplinary work is the norm. We value respectful debate and seek perspectives from outside our bubble—academia, industry, public sector, and civil society.
How we work
Small, focused teams
Teams are sized to maintain context and velocity. We keep interfaces clear and prefer one owner per decision.
Written first
Designs start as short memos: the problem, constraints, alternatives, and evaluation plan. Writing sharpens thinking and creates shared memory.
Evaluation plans from day one
Every project defines success criteria early: datasets, metrics, stress tests, and red‑team prompts. Reproducibility is non‑negotiable.
Decision records (ADRs)
Important technical decisions get a concise ADR that documents the “why,” the chosen path, and the trade‑offs. We optimize for future readers.
Product with research, not after it
Research tracks have a product counterpart. We prototype with real tasks and users to avoid lab‑only results.
A simple decision framework
When making a call, we ask:
- What problem (or risk) are we actually solving?
- What evidence supports this approach? What would change our mind?
- What is the safest version we can ship that still teaches us something real?
- How will we measure success and detect failure quickly?
- What is the long‑term cost of this choice (complexity, safety, debt)?
Commitments
- To users: Reliability over novelty; clear docs, predictable behavior, and honest limits.
- To partners: Transparent roadmaps, measured claims, and responsive security practices.
- To the community: Share methods, evaluations, and lessons where it improves collective safety and capability.
What we won’t do
- Ship features that meaningfully increase risk without commensurate mitigations
- Market results we can’t reproduce or explain
- Trade off user trust for short‑term engagement
How to get involved
If these principles resonate, we’d like to hear from you. We’re building:
- Research collaborations on interpretability, evaluation, and safe capability scaling
- Product pilots for Arete in scientific discovery, learning systems, and decision support
- A thoughtful team of engineers, researchers, and designers
